I House

1/3
This partial home renovation transforms a traditional layout into a home that is better suited for company, accessibility, and a flexible work-from-home environment. To achieve this, a sunken living room is brought up to the main floor level, and existing walls are removed to gain space in the rear of the house. Existing trusses are modified to achieve a vaulted ceiling through the kitchen, and new finishes are applied throughout.

BEFORE
AFTER
In the new layout, the living areas spaces flow into one another, while still providing separation for each function. The existing room next to the foyer is converted into a media room, while giving square footage back to the main spaces for an open floor plan. A new raised deck extends across the back to unify the living room and dining room, which will transition to outdoor living spaces in the garden. A new patio door is introduced at the dining room, along with a new window for outdoor serving. This design simplifies the interior for better movement and accommodates the lifestyle of the homeowner.
