Originally built in 1927, this house has been fully rejuvenated 98 years later. The homeowner, who grew up in this house, wanted to renovate it for herself and her husband. The design incorporates details that echo the home's original character while achieving a simple and clean finish. While most of the house's palette is neutral with warm finishes, there are moments of color throughout the house that bring elegance and vibrancy. On the ground floor, the kitchen, which was previously a separate room, has been opened up into a galley-style kitchen. This design extends the line of sight along the full length of the house. A new foyer was created to provide privacy and a clear transition into the living space. The original fireplace in the living room was converted to a gas fireplace and enhanced with plaster detailing. In the attic, the ceiling was removed to create a vaulted space for the new bedroom and home office. Both spaces are lined with built-in cabinets and closets to maximize storage. A dormer is added in the attic for a primary bathroom with a soaking tub. Meanwhile, the basement was converted to a full guest suite and a finished laundry room. This house, while the original footprint was compact, maximizes its use and provides a new sense of spaciousness.
